Questions & Answers

Questions from LWV Santa Cruz County (2)

Over the next year, what do you see as the two biggest challenges to be addressed in this office?
Answer from Bruce Daniels:

We need to finish construction of our PureWater Soquel project to restore our groundwater basin and thereby stop and prevent saltwater intrusion from polluting and destroying our sole water source. This PureWater project has been scientifically verified to make our groundwater basin sustainable (the only project that has been shown to do this) and thereby it does satisfy the requirements of the new state law Sustainable Groundwater Managment Act (SGMA).

What in your background, personal or professional, has prepared you to meet these challenges?
Answer from Bruce Daniels:

I have a Ph.D. in Hydroclimatology (science of how climate change impacts water resources).

I have been serving on the Board of Directors of the Soquel Creek Water District for 20 years.

I am a Director of the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency (MGA) (organization for creation and execution of sustainable water plan). Assigned by MGA to serve on the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to specify, select, and review computer groundwater modelling tools.

Appointed by Governor to two terms (six years) on our Regional Water Quality Control Board.

B.S & M.S in Computer Science and 30 years experience in that field.
