Biography

About Anthony

Born and raised in California and a resident of Santa Cruz County since 1975.  I enjoy Surfing, Hiking, and Mountain biking.  I moved from Aptos to Capitola in 1997 and have remodeled two homes and built another gaining insight into the inner workings of our planning department. Graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Marketing and Economics. As a Wealth Manager, Realtor® and Mortgage Broker I bring a trifecta of knowledge to my clients and would like to extend that to the Capitola City Council.  Capitola is an amazing city, we enjoy a healthy natural environment, clean, safe streets, vibrant business, social and cultural communities. I feel blessed to live and work in Capitola and I’m reminded of this during my morning walks through the neighborhoods. COVID has brought on some challenging times and tough decisions lie ahead. As a businessman, I know how to make tough decisions. If you share my love for Capitola, like balanced budgets, and want to keep Capitola special, vote for Anthony Rovai to bring commonsense and solutions to Capitola

Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California and Elect Justice CA (2)

Does your office have any plans to include currently or formerly incarcerated people in your decision-making process as it relates to criminal justice issues? What would that look like?
Answer from Anthony Rovai:

N/A

With 8,000 people eligible for release from CA prisons to help stem the transmission of COVID-19, how, if at all, would your office aid these Californians and their families in navigating reentry?
Answer from Anthony Rovai:

Prisons should be running under the same protocols as families/Businesses do to protect their workers/loved ones.  Wash your hands, wear masks, and social distance wherever practical.  New prisoners should be quarantined.  Guards and staff should have access to PPE.  This issue falls outside of the Capitola City Council's jurisdiction.

Questions from LWV Santa Cruz County (3)

Over the next year, what do you see as the two biggest challenges to be addressed in this office?
Answer from Anthony Rovai:

1) 1)     Balance the budget while maintaining as many services as possible, and then build up the reserves.

1)     Get students safely back to school and safely re-open businesses

What in your background, personal or professional, has prepared you to meet these challenges?

What is the best way to prepare for and respond to sea level rise, and how would you weigh public against private interests?
Answer from Anthony Rovai:

1) Properties that in the lower elevations should think about having parking on the bottom floor to reduce flood damage.

2) Construction of a sea wall to protect property and lessen erosion.

Without knowing the specifics of the situation, how can I make an intelligent statement regarding Public vs Private interests?

I'm for property owner rights, smaller government, and access to public lands.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

First, I would like to start out by saying I am very glad that the Capitola City Council position is nonpartisan.  I would also like to state I’m truly disgusted by the behavior of both parties!  Politicians seem to be more concerned about their well-being and rise to power, then for the well-being of the Citizens of the United States.

This country was founded on the principles all people are created equal and free, having the same inalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.  The Constitution states, the government must operate with the consent of the Governed, through the rule of law which is fundamental to a free and just society, to protect the Lives, Liberty, and Prosperity of all people.

I truly believe we should live and let live and limit the government in our lives. A very wise man once told me that the government is there to do what we cannot due for ourselves, the protector, providing safety from violence and foreign aggression (Police, Courts, Jails, lawmakers, and armed services), the provider of goods and services (clean water, sewer systems, and the basic economic infrastructure of human connectivity.)

I will protect your rights, promote opportunity for all and work to bring unity to our community.  I will govern through Awareness (Identify issue, listen to ideas and positions), Action (develop and implement the plan), and Accountability (review plan progress and make changes when needed).
