I served on the Belmont City Finance Commission from 2012 through 2015 and the Planning Commission from 2015 through 2019, at which time I was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the City Council. I also served as treasurer for the Measure I campaign that provides funding to fix our aging streets and infrastructure. Before moving to Belmont, I worked for the federal government at the Tennessee Valley Authority where I managed nearly 200,000 acres of public land and open space plus buildings and laboratories.

Political Beliefs
Political Philosophy
I believe government at all levels is a "balancing act." We have multiple responsibilities to multiple constituencies. While there are never enough resources to give everyone everything they want, we must listen to everyone, consider their positions, and make the most effective use of resources. We must have respect for everyone and be tolerant of our differences.

Biography
My name is Ken Loo. I’m a husband, father, firefighter, small business owner, and educator. I graduated from UC Davis (B.A.), CSU Long Beach (M.S.), and earned an Adult Education Teaching Credential from San Jose State. I currently serve on a Civilian Oversight Board of a Bay Area Police Agency where I have focused on transparency.
During my 20 years of experience in public safety as a Fire Captain, I have made life changing decisions on a daily basis. I have extensive experience working with public budgets and multi-agency coordination.
I am running for Belmont City Council because public safety is my number one priority. I want to improve traffic and pedestrian safety; address our housing issues and city permitting process; all the while keeping Belmont a family friendly city.
I will work to keep a robust and modern public safety model making sure we coordinate with all agencies involved.
As a City Council member, I will focus on evaluating the process to obtain city permits/licenses to streamline the process and manage growth by working with Sacramento legislators.
As an educator, I have taught courses for front line public health department personnel and understand their operational concerns. I instruct teachers in emergency procedures in K-12 schools, as well as those in public agencies, private sector, and non-profits.
I want to ensure the viability of our long-term development plans by updating them with the changing of the times while keeping the historic beauty in place.
With your vote, I will continue my efforts to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Belmont.
My Top 3 Priorities
- Respect and promote Belmont's Representative Democracy by putting the voices of Belmont residents first and foremost above non-residnets and outside special interests.
- Protect Belmont citizens’ right to decide our local quality of life by opposing Sacramento’s attempt to mandate our housing density.
- Lead Belmont in passing meaningful legislation that will significantly reduce our Greenhouse Gas Emissions helping to mitigate, and reverse, the effects of Climate Change, which has set our State on fire.
