As a parent of four children who attended the Pacifica Public Schools, like you, education is a priority for me. I have a vested interest in making sure my children, and yours, have access to an educational experience that fosters a love for learning and excitement to go to school. As a daughter of immigrants who struggled with the language barriers and an understanding of the educational system, I understand the difficulties that many first-generation immigrant children face when attending school. I was lucky to have the support of teachers that would reach out to my parents. My experience as a parent of two children with learning difficulties has also given me a perspective that the investment teachers and administrators give our children go beyond just the obvious barriers like language or learning differences. I have seen how effective collaboration between teachers, administration and parents have dramatically improved the educational experience of all children. These experiences forged my passion to volunteer and serve in any capacity in education.
I began my volunteer experience going into the classrooms. I was lucky enough to have incredible teachers to work with and quickly began volunteering in various committees. For the last 10 years I served on the Ocean Shore’s PTO as Treasurer, site council committee, Special Education Parent Advisory Committee, and many other. This has given me a diverse perspective on what is important to our community. I have also began volunteering with the Pacifica Education Foundation to gain a better understating of their perspectives and priorities so that we can continue to advance in our collaboration with one another.
