My Top 3 Priorities

  • Teachers - hiring, professional development and safe return to schools
  • Future of our schools - ensure strategic plan includes progressive curriculum (e.g. computer science)
  • Delivering educational experiences that meet the needs of all students; those needing accelerated learning tracts, learning assistance, and English as a second language

Experience

Education

Santa Clara University JD/MBA, Law and Masters in Business Administration (2003)
Franklin & Marshall College BA, Studio Art (1998)

Biography

I received a Bachelors in Studio Art at Franklin & Marshall College. I value arts education and the opportunity for kids to learn valuable skills in problem solving and creative thinking through hands-on learning.

Later, I obtained a JD/MBA from Santa Clara University.  The JD taught me the power of law and policy; while the MBA program was about collaboration - team learning and achievement.  My career began as an employment lawyer where I helped companies and employees resolve highly charged conflicts positively.  In each of my career roles, I acquired skills in crisis management, including working on a core team leading my employers COVID-19 return to work strategy

As a legal executive; I lead teams that ensure our company’s practices are ethical and lawful and that we have systems and processes in place to protect people and their data.  I serve as a liaison to our board of directors, risk committee and am active in leading and supporting our company’s diversity efforts.

I sit on a global non-profit board focused on food security.  I understand the importance of school meal programs and the impact of hunger on children’s ability to learn and thrive at school.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

As a Las Lomitas School Board member I will apply my creative problem solving and crisis management skills to issues facing our district.  I will ensure that we continue to hire high-caliber teachers and we don’t lose sight of arts education as we navigate the pandemic.  I will work with parents, fellow Board members and staff to ensure all voices are heard and incorporated. Finally, I will help LL prepare for what is next - both fiscally and academically - as we build the district strategy for the next five years.

This election is on the heels of a difficult year, a global health pandemic and the unveiling at-scale of racial inequality in our country.  There is no school district that could have been prepared for the dramatic changes and uncertainty we faced this year.  My skills and experience make me well qualified to work collaboratively and bring thoughtful solutions to the problems we face as a district.

I am a 15-year resident in the district and my children both attended Las Lomitas and now attend La Entrada.  We have benefited from the incredible teachers and staff in our district and their focus - not only our children’s learning, but their social and emotional development as well.
