Daughter of a Teacher and Proud Product of Public Education. As the daughter of an elementary school teacher, Elli was raised with a love of learning and a strong appreciation for public education. She grew up in the Bay Area and attended public schools all the way through UC Berkeley for her undergraduate degree and then attended Santa Clara Law School for her J.D.
Partner at a Marin County Law Firm. Immediately after law school, Elli joined a prominent law firm that was then based in Mill Valley. She is now a partner at the firm specializing in government ethics laws. She advises companies, non-profits, and other organizations on complying with federal, state and local ethics, lobby, campaign finance and election laws, including developing and implementing comprehensive nationwide compliance systems.
Current District Parent Involved in our Schools. As a parent of three young children, Elli knows it is critical to invest in our schools to ensure we provide the educational opportunities and support necessary for all of our students to succeed. She volunteered as both a classroom and school volunteer. When COVID hit, Elli looked for new ways to engage to ensure the needs of all our students were being met. She joined the Mill Valley Transition Taskforce, LeCAP/LCAP meetings, and coordinated with other parents to address gaps in support and resources for our students and their families.
Advocate for our Elementary School Students. As the remote learning situation continued, it demonstrated the importance of having a current parent on the Board, someone who is personally impacted by District programs and decisions on a daily basis. Despite our District having five elementary schools and one junior high, there are no other candidates or Board members who have elementary school aged children.
Valuable Resource for the Board. In addition, Elli recognized that given her legal experience adeptly navigating California’s complex laws, contracting matters, open meeting laws, and more, she would be a valuable resource for the Board and District. No other Board members or candidates have a legal background. A fierce advocate for her clients, Elli was eager to use her skills and experience to advocate for the best interests of our children.
With this in mind, and a willingness to have the tough conversations necessary to help us move forward, Elli decided to run for the Mill Valley School District Board to help fill these gaps.
Proud Mill Valley Family. Elli lives in Mill Valley with her husband, Sohrab Saghezchi, a dentist in Mill Valley, and their three children. They enjoy hiking and biking on our incredible Marin County paths, and finding creative new uses for cardboard boxes.
