My Top 3 Priorities

  • Forestry Management. We need to fire safe our communities, put in shaded fuel breaks in the forest, reduce ladder fuels, reduce tree density, open up the crown and canopies. All on private, state and federal lands.
  • Small Business Recovery. We need to support our local businesses through this difficult time as they safely reopen and reduce regulation and bureaucratic red tape to help them thrive.
  • Broadband internet. Large swaths of the district have no access to broadband and this is a huge problem when it comes to distance learning, working from home, emergency evacuations, and attracting families and businesses to move to the North State.

California State Assemblywoman, District 1, California State Assembly — Elected position (2019–current)

Biography

Proudly serving as the elected Representative for Assembly District 1 from Bieber, CA. Assemblywoman, Mother of three, small business owner, farmer, advocate for rural education, public safety, small business, and safely reopening the North State.    I was born and raised right here in Northern California and currently live in Lassen County. My husband Brian and I have been married for over 20 years, with three amazing children who never fail to impress and motivate us every day. Chase, our oldest, studies agricultural science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Reagan, our middle child, is also at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo studying agricultural communications. Roslyn, our youngest, at 11 years old lights up our home with her love of song and dance.   It’s been an honor representing our district in Sacramento and I am committed to continuing to make sure our rural communities still have a seat at the table in California. As your state Representative, I have served as the Vice-Chair of the Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee and sat on the Education committee. I’ve championed for our beautiful forests and watershed, supported critical wildfire and rural education funding, secured funding for our districts, and opposed red tape, unnecessary government spending, and one-size-fits-all policies that do nothing but hurt our rural economies and keep our businesses closed.   When I am not representing our district in Sacramento, Brian and I run our small business as dry land wheat farmers. The wheat that we grow is processed for seed, which we sell to local farmers and wholesalers alike. As a part of our business, we also run a small trucking division to transport our grain across the state. Running the farm with full-time employees has given me significant insight into the difficulty of running, owning, and operating a small business in our state. My experience as a woman small business owner and entrepreneur has also helped me to understand the unique challenges and obstacles of owning and operating a business in our state. As small business owners, we are responsible for compliance, human resources, and finances, and I understand first-hand how the burden of over-regulation has increased the cost of doing business here in California.   Up until 2012, I was also a co-owner of Big Valley Nursery in Bieber. My friend and I purchased the nursery from the original owner, who had run the business since its founding more than 30 years earlier. Over the next few years, we remodeled, improved the greenhouses, and expanded our inventory. We later sold the nursery to one of our employees, and it remains a thriving local business.   I served as President of the Big Valley Joint Unified School Board for one term, where I grew my passion for rural education. I advocated for, and continue to support, access to AP and enrichment classes so that every student can achieve their full academic potential. I am running to continue to help build a stronger and safer North State.
