Biography

My past is the same as yours:

1. When I was young, I worked to survive.

2. Later, I worked so my family could thrive.

3. Now, I work to benefit others.

Some of us have trouble making it through all the steps, that's why we should never stop working at it.

Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California (3)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid, and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Answer from Steven A. Richey:

Generally:

Tax the parties who are using the resource.

Tax business, not people.

No individual income tax.

We all know the consumer eventually pays the taxes, but they should only be paying for the services they're actually using.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages to secure affordable health care?
Answer from Steven A. Richey:

Government should regulate health care, not provide it. Federal Government subsidies are primarily responsible for increasing the cost of healthcare.  Let the States find solutions and implement those which work best.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the President.
Answer from Steven A. Richey:

Living in the US without documentation should be de-criminalized. Working in the US, however, should be dependent on documentation. Anyone should be allowed to live and work in America, as long as we know who they are. Citizenship should be required to own property.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all humans are created equal, and enjoy unalienable Rights including Life, Liberty, and the pusuit of Happiness. That the purpose of instituting Government among a People is to secure these Rights. - modified excerption from the Declaration of Independence.

1. Government has no business accumulating debt except in times of extreme duress

2. Government has no business fighting wars except in defense of it's own territory

3. Government has no business exploiting our environment and natural resources for profit.

Government was created to protect Individual Rights, not to determine through regulation and convenient enforcement who succeeds and who fails.

— January 16, 2020 Steve Richey for President 2020

America has been tricked into believing we are prospering, and each generation of politicians hopes they can leave office before the truth is revealed. The only way to stop this downward spiral is to end the two-party system.
