My Top 3 Priorities

  • Unite Democratic Party
  • Build a community network of leaders
  • Win back seats

Profession:Field Representative - Supervisor Leticia Perez
Field Representative, County of Kern (2017–current)

Born and raised in East Bakersfield, Christian Romo is a true son of the Central Valley. He attended local schools and graduated from Golden Valley High School.  He then went on to attend Taft College and California State University, Bakersfield majoring in Political Science.

Christian has been a strong leader in our community for several years now; starting with his time as a community organizer with the Building Healthy Communities organization in South Kern at the age of 15. After leading a successful campaign in revitalizing communities in South Kern, he then caught the “political bug” and became involved in various local political campaigns. Two weeks prior to his high school graduation, Christian was hired on as part of the staff for Assemblymember Rudy Salas and became the youngest employee of the California State Assembly at the age of 17. After serving a little over two years for Assemblymember Salas, Christian then took a brief break from politics to work in local media before deciding to return to the political scene serving as the Bakersfield Political Director for the Emilio Huerta for Congress campaign, as well as an advisor for other campaigns in the Valley. Christian was then selected to work for Supervisor Perez as a Field Representative in East Bakersfield where he still is currently employed.

Christian has been elected to serve as a delegate to the California Democratic Party 3 times, and has been a member of the Kern County Democratic Central Committee since he was 18. He has served as political director for the Bakersfield Young Democrats for 4 years and received the George and Millie Albin Award from the Kern County Democratic Party in 2015. Christian has also served as Chairman for the executive board of South Kern Sol , deputy campaign manager for the Grace Vallejo for Supervisor campaign in 2018 and was featured in an exhibit alongside civil rights leader Dolores Huerta at the California State Museum for his work in civic engagement in the Central Valley.

Christian attributes his success to the support of his family: his mother, an employee of the California Department of Water Resources, his father, a welder in the oil fields, and his younger brother who serves in the United States Navy and is currently deployed overseas.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I have been a proud registered Democrat since the day I turned 18 and will always be faithful to my party, however, I believe at this point in time we are facing a fork in the road and we need a strong leader to guide us into the future. I believe I have the experience and skills to be that leader. I order to win local and Statewide elections we need to rethink the way Democrats operate in Kern County. We are not LA of SF, we are a very conservitive county with people who are upset with how we have been governed the last century. The local Democratic Party needs to capitalize on these frustrations and use it to show people the Democrats are the true party of the people.
