Biography
Dorothy Beattie is ready to roll up her sleeves and work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for Santa Rosans as a member of the City Council. Dorothy is not seeking a job or a political career. She really loves this place we all call home. She wants to help our community thrive. Our community is in a crisis – a fiscal one – at the same time, we are trying to address fire recovery, a housing shortage and a homeless problem.
On a smaller scale, Dorothy works to help others. She’s helped renters purchase their own homes and volunteers with United Way, where she’s prepared more than 3,000 tax returns over the last eight years for people in need. Dorothy is a business owner, landlord and community advocate. She has enjoyed a successful career working in both large and small companies as an executive in banking and finance.
Dorothy is running for City Council to put her skills to work for the betterment of our community. She holds an MBA from Columbia University with a focus on finance and accounting. She also holds a real estate brokerage license, where she has helped her own tenants purchase homes by teaching them financial skills, foregoing a majority of her commission on the sale of these homes and providing a free month’s rent to help them save up for a down payment. Across the board, she also charges fair rental rates, again helping her tenants put away funds for a down payment on their first home.
There is no doubt, Dorothy truly cherishes our community and all of us who live here. Her goal is to work together to make it a better place. Dorothy is an experienced leader and team player ready to get the job done!

Biography
Mary Watts moved to Santa Rosa with her husband Greg, to provide a better quality of life for herself and her future family. To Mary, Santa Rosa was a beacon of opportunity. She saw a place for her family with more affordable housing than the surrounding bay area, great open space, job possibilities and reputable schools. Santa Rosa is a booming small city with great promise. Slowly it feels like that is slipping away. The high cost of living, exacerbated by the horrific wildfires, make it challenging to live here in Santa Rosa.
But Mary has hope and is excited for what Santa Rosa can offer its residents. It just takes hard work and dedication. Mary grew up knowing the value of working hard and helping others as she watched her single mom overcome barriers. She was taught to always value community and give back. She is ready to help Santa Rosa flourish.
After completing her Master’s in Public Administration from Sonoma State University, she went on to work with Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County, and currently serves as the Deputy Director. Every day through her work, Mary gets to empower families and strive to eliminate poverty in the county. She also has had the pleasure of sitting on volunteer boards and commissions:
- Board Member, Santa Rosa Board of Public Utilities
- Secretary, Burbank Housing Neighborhood Revitalization Corporation
-Santa Rosa Community Advisory Board Subcommittee Member
- Former President, Wine Country Young Democrats
-Member, Sonoma County Democratic Party
As a past member of the Santa Rosa Board of Public Utilities, Mary is most proud of her efforts on the Help to Others water bill assistance program. This innovative program helps assist low income water ratepayers with their monthly water bill and provide the customers with financial resources. Mary developed program strategies that assist with the financial costs and make households more water efficient.
Mary recently sat on a subcommittee with the Community Advisory Board to create more community gardens in Santa Rosa, and broke ground on the Apple Valley neighborhood Community Garden through Burbank Housing. The project brought the community together through healthy eating and active living and gave the residents a stronger voice in their community.
Mary is ready to serve on Santa Rosa City Council and asks for your vote.
