Biography
My career began in healthcare at UCSF and then moved to technology and media. I have been involed for over 30 years in the technology and environmental/sustainability community in engineering, planning, management and advisory roles. He has also worked with a number of start-up firms and been an executive manager in both the consulting and technology industry. Around 20 years ago I shifted to higher educationand research, and have had academic positions leading schools in the US and Europe. The last ten years I have focused on social impact and the environment.
If I had the skill and courage I would be a primary school teacher, something I explored in 1999 when I left consulting, but realized that was not my core capability. So I focused on working in support of educators in environmental issues and community resilience. I served for 25 years on the board of and as a volunteer at the Marine Mammal Center, and for over 2 decades have been working with the American Red Cross, again as a volunteer and board member.
Political Beliefs
Political Philosophy
Change is part of what living systems do in order to response to an ever evolving external environment, but change has to be managed carefully so we create positive benefits without harming others. And successful democaracy requires compromise and a focus not on individual benefits but the common good, all while minimizing harm.
Against that background people should be able to live their lives in peace and safety and with minimal intrusion of government as long as they do not harm others.
