Candidate Statement for Oakdale Irrigation District Division 5
This OID election is vitally important for residents of southwest Oakdale, including those in Bridle Ridge, The Vineyards, neighboring rural residents and farmers. Here are some of the issues and positions I support.
The Oakdale Irrigation District should be a transparent public agency committed to safeguarding our water supply for the long-term benefit of our entire community. All secret meetings, shady deals, needless lawsuits and outright favoritism must stop.
Oakdale city residents pay millions in OID taxes, but they receive virtually nothing in return. About 15 years ago, OID cut off the irrigation water it was supplying to Oakdale homes. City residents weren’t paid for that OID water grab.
Instead of exporting our water to Southern California and keeping all the profits, OID must begin fairly compensating Oakdale residents for their water rights.
Our region’s groundwater – which provides Oakdale’s drinking water – is dwindling in supply and quality, in part because OID ships so much water outside our region. Our surface water should stay in our community to bene t our residents, irrigate our agricultural land, bolster our economy and replenish our aquifers. Protecting our groundwater resources is imperative.
I’ve lived within OID my entire life. I’ve farmed, ranched and raised my family here. I served on OID’s board from 1998-2001, before the current administration took control.
Elect me and I vow to be a trustworthy, fair advocate for our residential and farming communities.
I stand for:
-
- Doing the Public’s Business in Public with Complete Transparency
-
- Treating Community Members, Farmers and Employees with Respect
-
- Ending Divisive and Needless Legal Disputes that Waste Taxpayer Money
-
- Protecting Our Region’s Water Resources for Future Generations
-
- Preserving Our Groundwater by Keeping Our Surface Water Within Our Region
-
- Responding Quickly and Fairly to Community and Customer Concerns
