My Top 3 Priorities

  • I hope to unite all citizens of Fort Bragg and heal past wounds
  • I plan on speeding up infrastructure repair and retrofitting-alleys; streets and water storage and wastewater plant reconstruction
  • I will recommend a business-liason at City Hall to help facilitate new business development and to assist business owners through the maze of a start-up business

My History and my Traditions I grew up in New Orleans housing projects and ghettos, amidst daily struggles with poverty and intense racial and societal tensions. My mom worked tirelessly to make ends meet and slowly improved the lives of her five children. Three of us were lucky enough to attend a Catholic elementary school run by a religious order of African American sisters in the South. Even as the first caucasian students in the school's 75 year history, we were welcomed and treated fairly. That experience gave me the foundation for my lifelong relationship with the Church and for my lifelong commitment to helping friends and neighbors.

I have a lifelong commitment to progressive ideals. It's a multigenerational commitment in my family and I am happy to uphold the tradition.

I moved to Fort Bragg in 1986 with my partner. I worked in several restaurants and bought a sports apparel and trophy store called Teamwork in 1989. In 1994 we successfully applied for and received an SBA loan from the Savings Bank and opened the Fort Bragg Grille. Two years later we opened another t-shirt shop. As someone who has owned 3 businesses at once, I am well aware of the challenges and pressures that face business owners on the coast.

For 10 years I've chaired the Catholic Church BBQ & Fiesta, organizing and cooking fundraiser dinners for the Fort Bragg High School choir. I am the Chair of  the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. In this role, I demonstrate fairness, prayerful deliberation and leadership for our 500 families in the Parish.

Political Philosophy

I am Will Lee, and this is why I am running for City Council in Fort Bragg.

As a former small business owner in Fort Bragg, I have the experience of managing many employees and coordinating day-to-day operations, while remaining financially viable. As the Chef/owner of The Fort Bragg Grille, owner of Teamwork T-shirts and Awards, and the owner of Depot Tees, I have the working knowledge of business planning and development. I will represent you, the citizens of Fort Bragg, competently, honestly and transparently. Why am I promoting transparency and citizen involvement in decisions? Because I have seen it work well.
Working in Human Resources as a Medical Staff Professional has honed my leadership skills. I am a problem solver and a team player. Team problem-solving involves careful research, by qualified people with diverse viewpoints and a respected and respectful facilitator. In my management role at the Hospital, I have led many projects through the initial start-up phase through timely completion. I will bring that efficiency and success to my role in our City Council.

I support constructive and inclusive dialogue between community leaders, Hispanic citizens, advocates for the homeless and disabled, law enforcement, and our residents - young and old, new arrivals and longstanding Fort Braggers. Together, we can pursue our shared goals for responsible planning and growth, a broad, vibrant and stable job market, technological and environmental preparedness, and a thriving town with proud local traditions.

I believe in leadership by example, and leadership through service. As a dedicated lay parishioner-leader of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, I've led the Parish Pastoral Council. I am always willing to help lead our many fundraising events. I am the Chair of the church’s annual BBQ and Carnival which draws a cross-section of our community together for fellowship, community building and a safe and fun-filled day for the many families in Fort Bragg. I encourage every citizen of Fort Bragg to volunteer for a cause you feel is important, whether that be an environmental cause, social justice, creative, community safety and beautification, or something else important to you. Our world needs your help. Even if it is only an hour a month.

I feel that I have many talents to offer our community in civic service. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 8, 2016. I will seek your good ideas and work for solutions to the issues presented to the Council for consideration and action.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
