I spent 36 years in education as a classroom teacher, a site level administrator and a school district superintendent. As a retiree, I have the good fortune of being on the adjunct faculty staff for the University of San Francisco teaching in the teacher credentialing program and Masters in Teaching program. I have served as a board member for the Boys'and Girls' Club, the YMCA and the Chamber of Commerce. I have served on the Del Norte County First Five of California board of directors. I have also been a member of Rotary International. I have lived in Petaluma for 30 years and take a great deal of pride and what the community has done for our children and for what is possible in the future.

I believe that all children can be successful. It migh take longer for some to achieve that success. i believe that all children are gifted in their own right. I believe that it is the role of our school system to afford every opportunity possible to our students so they can experience success through the options that will be available to them at the end of their PK-12 experience.
My Top 3 Priorities
- Continue to make policy and decisions that are in the best interests of students. This includes listening carefully to all stakeholders and working together to find solutions.
- Priorize bond fund expenditures for maximum impact for each school in the district.
- Foster strong relationships which support the efforts of the amazing staff to continue producing award winning schools and educations for generations of Petaluma students.

Communication of the state school funding formula - a complicated alphabet soup of acronyms and abbreviations - and the accompanying goals for achievement can be simplified for ease of understanding. At the core, Petaluma City Schools (PCS) has four major goals with supporting objectives that I will briefly outline here:
1. Students need access to 21st century learning environment and tools. To achieve this, the district will provide the students with qualified teachers, appropriate instructional materials, an iPad and quality facilities.
2. All students will graduate from PCS College and career ready. To achieve this, PCS is working towards students attaining grade level mastery in English and Math, providing appropriate Career and Technical Education courses, and providing professional development to our fabulous teachers.
3. PCS Community will be involved and included in the education of of PCS students, including the decision making process. To this goal, there is a regularly updated parent portal (Aeries) for grades and information about their student/s, regularly scheduled informational meetings at each and every school site, a website in the process of being revamped to improve user experience and information and a Parent App for iPhone and android platforms.
4. All students engaged and supported to meet the rigor required to be a 21st century student. The focus here is on the importance of individual student attendance leading to outstanding graduation rates, as well as the newly launched (2016-17 school year) after school activities and engagement program organized at the district level and managed at the school site level with the goal of having every district student involved in a minimum of one outside activity at their school site during this school year.
I understand the funding formula and the goals associated with measuring outcomes. I will continue to support the District Superintendent and his staff in following through on the details needed to achieve those goals and continue to reach out to community members to keep all stakeholders actively involved in keeping Petaluma City Schools award winning.
A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools. What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
