Steve Fazio’s roots in the San Fernando Valley date back to the 1960’s, when his family moved to Southern California. Upon arrival and throughout his childhood, Steve was drawn to the unique qualities of the area and knew that it would always be home. After graduating from High School, Steve entered the family business, where he learned the value of hard-work and customer service from his father. He left the business for a short time after purchasing his own dry cleaning facility, but returned to take over the company as his father and his fathers’ partners were nearing retirement.

Steve has spent the last 35 years building a team and expanding Fazio Cleaners, but he has never lost sight of those family values instilled by his parents and grandparents, and those principles remain at the core of the company today. One of these beliefs is to treat customers and employees with respect, and Steve has always understood that, “Without a dedicated workforce that understands how to treat customers– there would be no business!”

For Steve, creating job opportunities and establishing an environment that permits people to rise to their potential has always been his goal as a small business owner. As a State Senator, Steve will use his experience to offer common-sense reforms that create jobs and lessen the everyday burdens that fall upon California’s working-class families.

From 1981-2011, Steve served as a reserve police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department where he was responsible for hundreds of arrests and thousands of calls for service. After his honorable retirement from the LAPD, former Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, asked Steve to serve as a member of the Los Angeles City Fire Commission. The LA City Council unanimously approved Steve’s appointment to the board, and when Mayor Villaraigosa was termed out, Steve was the only member to continue his service at the direction of current Mayor, Eric Garcetti.

Now that Steve is a candidate for State Senate, he is no longer able to serve on a city commission, but as an elected representative, Steve will ensure local departments have the resources needed to protect our communities and make sure our region remains a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

After completing both an MBA and Doctorate at Pepperdine University, Steve received the “Distinguished Alumni Award”, and was asked to teach Strategy as an “Executive in Residence” at the George L. Graziadio, School of Business and Management.

During Steve’s time as an adjunct professor, he developed a passion for education as well as a desire to further his commitment to youth development. He accepted the position of founding President for the Sierra Canyon School Board of Trustees, and as a leader on the board, helped to raise the necessary resources to expand the school that now educates nearly 1,000 students, and has one of the most diverse student bodies of any Independent School in the State of California.

As a State Senator, Steve will be committed to education reform, and he will fight to restore a public education system that continues to fail its students. Steve knows that a quality education is the basis for a successful career, a successful life, and a successful society.

Steve is the founder of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), Las Virgenes Chapter, an organization that advocates for “better leaders through education and idea exchange.” The chapter now serves 50 Young Presidents and CEO’s – covering areas from Encino to Thousand Oaks, and reaching as far north as Bakersfield.

For Steve, the YPO involvement has extended well beyond just business, it’s helped him to better achieve his goals in a variety of areas such as: philanthropy, environmental stewardship, personal growth, and doing ones’ part to make the community, and the world, a little better place.

As an integral member of the community, Steve has offered countless hours to local organizations such as: Cedars Sinai Board of Governors, Woodland Hills Chamber, AIPAC, WPO, AJC, the Lincoln Club, and the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce.

In 2015, Fazio Cleaners received the Small Business of the Year Award, granted by the district’s California State Assembly Member. Steve’s business also earned the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA) Hall of Fame award, and was a nominee for the Fernando Award. In 2014, Steve received an award from the LAPD Eagle and Badge Foundation honoring his 30-years of service to the LAPD as a reserve police officer.

Steve and Nicole live in Woodland Hills; they have four children, and a Labradoodle named Dipper.

Janice Kamenir-Reznik is an advocate and community leader who has spent her life working to improve the lives of women, children, and working families here at home and around the world.She is the co-founder and Immediate Past President of Jewish World Watch – an interfaith coalition that advocates against genocide, and provides on-the-ground humanitarian support to more than 500,000 survivors of atrocities in Congo and Darfur.

Janice practiced law at the firm she helped build from the ground up into one of the most respected in the San Fernando Valley, employing nearly 50 people. Prior to her legal career, Janice worked to bring freedom to Soviet Jews. Her long history of civic leadership includes service as President of California Women Lawyers, where she worked “across the aisle” with the Republican Administration to appoint more qualified female judges to California’s courts and close the gender gap on the bench.Working alongside women leaders from across the state, Janice helped Sheila Kuehl and Abby Leibman establish the California Women’s Law Center (CWLC) where she later served as President. The CWLC serves as a powerful advocate to protect, secure and advance the comprehensive civil rights of women and girls. The CWLC empowers individuals to use the law that governs their rights and to address the legal issues that perpetuate the growing poverty among women and children.As President of the Los Angeles County Judicial Procedures Commission, Janice worked with Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky to develop the Self Help Legal Access Center – a nationally recognized program that enables low-income and working families navigate a complicated and bureaucratic court system without having to pay for a lawyer. The Center now serves hundreds of thousands of people across L.A. County.

Described by Yaroslavsky as “a dynamic, energetic and visionary leader who will be a great State Senator,” Janice has been honored for her leadership by many, including Los Angeles County, UCLA Hillel, Neighborhood Legal Services, the Encino Chamber of Commerce, Temple Valley Beth Shalom, KCET, the Jewish Home for the Aging, and the American Jewish University.

In 2014, Janice was named Woman of the Year by California State Senator Fran Pavley.Janice moved to Los Angeles from Illinois with her parents before she was a year old and attended Los Angeles public schools. She earned a Bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degree from UCLA, a Master’s degree in Social Work from USC, and a Master’s degree in Non-Profit Management from Hebrew Union College. Janice and her husband Ben have lived in Encino for more than 30 years. They have three adult children.

My political philosophy is best described by my lifelong demonstrated commitment to equality and social justice.  I founded a successful non-profit to fight genocide in Darfur and the Congo; I oversaw the building of the organization into an important voice in the anti-genocide movement, and an important force in bringing direct assistance to survivors of genocide and atrocity.  I helped Sheila Kuehl and Abby Leibman  establish the California Women’s Law Center that works to protect the civil rights of women and girls.   I was the President of California Women Lawyers where I worked to narrow the gender gap on California's courts by successfully advocating for the appointment of qualified women to the bench.  As President of the Los Angeles County Judicial Procedures Commission, with then-Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky I founded the Self Help Legal Access Centers in the LA County courts; from the initial pilot Center in Van Nuys, the project now serves hundreds of thousands of unrepresented litigants in every Judicial District in LA County.  All of these accomplishments are reflective of my philosophical commitment to fairness, justice and access.    These accomplishments also stand for the proposition that my "political philosophy" is not just philosophical in nature but is activist.  Good ideas do not change anything at all unless they are put into effective, sustainable action.  My history of accomplishment best embodies my political philosophy,-- namely: taking constructive, enduring actions which serve to further the twin aims of  bringing more justice into the world especially to vulnerable populations while also empowering those populations.

David Pollock is the mayor pro tem for the City of Moorpark, a small business owner and a proud husband and father who has raised his family in the 27^th Senate District. A Southern Californian since childhood, David has dedicated his life to public service.

David has served on the Moorpark City Council since 2009, where he has been a champion for open space, sustainable development and healthy living. David has earned a reputation for responsiveness to the needs and concerns of his constituents. He will bring his focus on accountable government to Sacramento as our next state senator.

Elected four times to the board of the Moorpark Unified School District, David spent 15 years helping improve academic achievement in our local schools. He led the effort for open enrollment and distinctive instructional programs, including schools specializing in the performing arts, science, and technology. He was actively involved in upgrading local schools by passing two school bonds and supporting a strong academic focus.  During his tenure, the Moorpark High School Academic Decathlon team won four national titles.

David also served as president of the Ventura County School Boards Association and was the first school board member from Ventura County to serve as president of the California School Boards Association, representing nearly 1,000 school boards. As a state education leader, he helped negotiate state budgets and established a statewide trust fund for school districts to fund their post-employment benefits.

Understanding our schools’ needs for statewide fiscal stability, David worked directly with then-Governor Schwarzenegger on the passage of Propositions 57 and 58, which helped establish the rainy day fund in California.

In addition to his city council duties, David champions social, economic, and environmental justice issues through his leadership on the Ventura County Air Pollution Control Board, represents the Ventura Council of Governments (VCOG) on the Energy & Environment Committee of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and serves on five non-profit boards including the Simi Valley Hospital Foundation as Chair.

David is a business development professional with an extensive background with large and small companies. He currently operates his own consulting business helping to grow small- to medium-sized businesses. He holds an MBA degree from the UCLA Anderson School and a BS degree from Pepperdine University. David is also a licensed commercial pilot and a certified flight instructor.

David is also known for his career as a child actor where he notably played the character Rudi Stein in the 1976 classic Bad News Bears. Today he lives in Moorpark with his wife, Diana, and has two grown children.

We live in a great state but we can always do better.

For our community, we need a state legislator that will be a champion for the issues important to our state, including education, the environment, and health care. Currently, we are ranked 46^th in the nation in per student education funding, we continue to experience environmental disasters like the Porter Ranch gas leak and the Torrance Exxon Mobile refinery, and countless California families are still without access to the quality health care they need.

As a longtime resident of the 27^th Senate District, statewide education leader, parent, small business owner, and a locally elected official dedicated to our communities, I’m ready to bring my experienced and accountable leadership on these issues to Sacramento as your State Senator.
