VALLEY CENTER FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
Board of Directors

JIM WOLD
Retired Fireman

As a past member of the Valley Center Fire Protection District Board of Directors, I was pleased to take the VCFPD from state administration to an interim partnership with the San Pasqual Fire Department and now to having our own independent command staff and department. Our new chief and captains are elevating VCFPD life-saving emergency response standards as high as any department in the state. My efforts to press for Advanced Life Support on VCFPD’s engines has resulted in lives saved in Valley Center.

I have watched the VCFPD develop into a first class department as a resident and as a former firefighter with 30 years experience. To continue to improve the district’s customer service to residents and businesses, I will work to maintain the focus on the professionalism and efficiency taxpayers need and expect.

My experience can help guide VCFPD to rise to the challenge of accommodating Valley Center’s anticipated future growth.

I know what community service means, and if you will give me your vote, I will work to ensure not only that Valley Center has the emergency response team that it needs, but that VCFPD will continue to innovate with improved methods and practices going forward.

Profession:Retired Firefighter

I have always been a public servent ,,, served 4 years in the United States Navy ,, where my Fire service career started ,, worked as a Crash Crew Firefighter at Air Station in Sigonella Sicily for 18 months . In 1978 I was hired by the Escondido Fire Dept. ,, served the city of Escondido for 32 plus years .

I believe that you must serve you local community well before taking on larger tasks in Government. Every one has the right to speak their mind in a civil manner.  I want to listen and understand the residents I serve .  I believe some folks get in the  political arena to help better their communities and others have a agenda they want pushed ,,   I have a passion to do the right thing for my community and make it better for our young so they can re-enforce that valve to their children as well ,    If you vote for Michael O'Connor , I will serve my community and make sure our voices are hear at the county level.

VALLEY CENTER FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
Board of Directors

MICHAEL O'CONNOR
AGE: 61
Retired Firefighter

“Like most Valley Center residents, I value the professional life-saving and firefighting skills of the Valley Center Fire Protection District. In 2014, Valley Center took a huge step by establishing its own emergency services command staff of a chief and six full-time captains. As part of the Risk Committee that researched that decision, I am proud that Valley Center has moved forward. Last year, VCFPD launched a program of Advanced Life Support on all its engines augmenting the great service provided by Mercy ambulance service, all while not increasing costs to district taxpayers. I support the direction VCFPD is heading.

As our community grows, VCFPD must prepare to grow with it. There are many challenges ahead as the planned growth of Valley Center unfolds. With an extensive district like VCFPD, the future will likely require a redeployment of our emergency response assets. As a 30-year veteran firefighter, and a long-time resident of Valley Center, I want to help VCFPD stay on course to provide the high standard of emergency service that our community needs and deserves.

If elected, I will work to secure even more efficient and effective emergency response for our entire community. I respectfully ask for your vote.”

VALLEY CENTER FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
Board of Directors

WEAVER SIMONSEN
Incumbent

I have served as a Director on the Valley Center Fire Protection District (VCFPD) since 2005. I have been involved in Valley Center fire protection since 1975. I served several years as a member Volunteer Fire Department that latter evolved to the VCFPD.

I currently am serving as President of the District. During my term as President, the District transitioned from a Chief and Captains provided by contract to full time employees. The result of this selection has been an upgrade of services including a firefighter paramedic on each of our engines and the addition of Engineers. We have maintained a crew of four personnel on our response engine.

My knowledge of local government rules and regulations, gained from serving in the public sector for over 30 years and my sensitivity to the dangers, as a result of having been a combat veteran, that our fire fighters face daily in carrying out their duties, has enabled me to perform my duties as a Director.

I am honored by and would greatly appreciate your continued support for my services to the community.
