NATIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Governing Board Member

BARBARA AVALOS
Incumbent/National School District Board Member

As a lifelong National City resident, it has been a privilege to serve on the National School District Board.

During 8 years on the board, I’ve worked hard to make sure every child gets the education and start in life they deserve. I am proud of what I have helped to accomplish:

Test scores are up. Technology has been upgraded in every school. The entire community helped pass a bond to make critical school repairs and bring air conditioning into all our classrooms. We’ve strengthened writing and math instruction. During the economic crisis, we maintained the District’s financial stability. We developed award-winning educational programs.

There is a great deal more to be done. It is critically important to provide our schools with a stable source of funding. Our children’s education should not be placed at risk because of wild swings in the economy. I, Barbara Avalos, need to continue to improve our Academic programs and provide every student in National City with the support and skills to excel as they continue up the educational ladder.

It's an honor to be supported by teachers and community members as well as Congressman Juan Vargas, Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez and Mayor Ron Morrison.

Please Re-elect School Board Member Barbara Avalos

BRIAN CLAPPER
AGE: 64
National School District Board President

These last 4 years, has been an honor to serve on the National School District board. My tenure has brought leadership and stability to the board; through increased community participation within the district, Walgreens was encouraged to provide free flu shots to school children and their families, additionally, the 3rd grade swim program was brought back. I will continue to work rigorously to help National City children receive the best possible education available.

Mr. Brian Clapper is endorsed by the National City Elementary Teachers Association (NCETA) and California School Employees Association (CSEA). Please vote for Brian Clapper for National City School Board.

SHERYLL CELLADORA
AGE: 40

I am a mom, active community member, and a current Substitute Clerk for the National School District. I am running for office because I have a genuine passion to serve our community and to see the children of National City become the leaders of tomorrow.

If elected, my top priorities would focus on parent involvement, fiscal accountability, and curriculum support.

Research shows the positive impact parent involvement has on student achievement. It is my goal to bridge the gap between home and school by promising to engage, advise, provide, and partner with you in finding opportunities to become actively involved in your child’s education in ways that make sense for your family’s schedule.

It is important to me that educational systems are held accountable to our youth and future leaders. This not only means to their learning models but also to the dollars and cents necessary to provide a quality education in facilities that house conducive learning environments. If elected, I promise to remain actively involved in the Local Control Accountability Plan.

Finally, it is my goal to provide curriculum support where needed and to nurture an environment where students are excited to come to school and eager to learn!
