My Top 3 Priorities

  • Teacher support is needed at all levels: dual immersion, special ed as well as classroom teachers. New teachers need to have mentors to help them through the first few years so that they don't feel overwhelmed and leave the profession.
  • Quality education comes from excellent teaching. We need to provide support for our teachers at all levels. We should be recruiting the best and the brightest from colleges, retaining teachers with the help of mentoring and support.
  • Fiscal responsibility means using all possible funds and resources to assist teachers in delivering quality education to their students.

Laurie was born and raised in Chula Vista and taught in the Chula Vista Elementary School District for 23 years. She was the first teacher in the south San Diego County to achieve certification with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She earned her Masters Degree in Instructional Leadership and served as a district mentor for three year coaching and mentoring teachers at all levels. Laurie is an adjunct faculty member at National University and has also taught at the University of San Diego school of Education. She volunteers in her daughter's classroom as well as at her church and other community events.
