Experience

Biography

I am running to become a Director of the Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD).  I believe I have the necessary background and experience to be a strong advocate for Chico Parks and Recreational needs.

 My background and experience includes:

  • Mayor, City of Chico 1994 – 1996
  • Council Member, City of Chico 1988 – 1996
  • Planning Commissioner, City of Chico 1983 – 1988
  • Executive Director, The Arc of Butte County 1994 – 2017
  • Co-founder, Board Member, Butte Environmental Council 1975
  • Masters in Public Administration (MPA), CSU Chico
  • B.A, Economics, CSU Chico

As a Council Member I worked hard to successfully provide the necessary financial infrastructure to fund and build the current park inventory that we enjoy in Chico today.  During my years on the Chico City Council we:

  •  Purchased 1380 Acres to enhance and protect Upper Bidwell Park
  • Purchased and build Wildwood Park
  • Build Depot Park
  • Purchased the land to build Oak Way Park
  • Expended Community Park (20th Street)
  • Increased funding for Bidwell Park
  • Created long term funding mechanism to build neighborhood and community parks

It is very important that we double our efforts to create additional open spaces in Chico for both passive and recreational enjoyment.  I believe I can provide the leadership to take on this task.
