She has been a teacher-leader, a District-level literacy coach and coordinator, an administrator at San Leandro High School, and most recently serves as the Director of State and Federal Compliance for Newark Unified School District.

As a long time champion of public education, Abbey has the depth and breadth of experience to shape policies that will have a lasting and far reaching impact for our families. She has a deep knowledge of the field of education: The current research, statues and policies, and practical knowledge about how to apply them on the ground in San Leandro. She brings joy and optimism about what can be accomplished when we work together.

Abbey's core mission in doing this work is to transform the experience of students and families by disrupting patterns of inequity. She is tireless in her pursuit of our common vision that all students deserve the very best from their public schools.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I'm primarily an educator and not a politician. This will likely be the only office I run for, because I am completely focused on our local schools.

Our work as San Leandro School District Trustees is to foster the creative talent, collaborative spirit, and compassionate heart that comes with growing up in such a vibrant community. I dedicate myself to this work by creating meaningful partnerships with teachers, students, and families to address the historical and entrenched issues that have become all too predictable in public school systems across the country.

My mission is to not only create policies and practices that rebalance the opportunities available for students, which is often where many other leaders draw the line. I believe we must do more than this to truly address the painful history of educational inequity. My mission is to work with all of our community partners in a way that is restorative and healing so that we not only share the inspiring vision for San Leandro Unified School District, but more importantly that we walk together, that we learn together, that we lead together to realize a more equitable and hopeful future for our students.
