Oakland schools face vast challenges, and it’s time to redirect our attention to what matters most: our students. As a Latina and Asian woman and the only former teacher running for this position, Kyra has dedicated her career to Oakland kids - as a classroom teacher at Horace Mann Elementary, as Deputy Director of Education, and now as the appointed school board member - working to solve four large problems: early childhood education, college access, the digital divide, and the lack of affordable housing for teachers. Kyra will fight to make our district functional, responsive, and financially stable so all students, families, and educators succeed. East Oakland families deserve transparency and a seat at the table when difficult decisions are made. Our students deserve a champion who listens to them, puts their needs first, and finds new solutions. Together we can - and we must - do better by our students.
