Biography

San Diego County Firefighters endorsed my campaign because “Jordan Marks is the qualified candidate for Assessor Firefighters trust! Jordan helped write the law protecting wildfire survivors from unfair tax penalties when rebuilding their homes.” - San Diego County Firefighters CAL FIRE

My experience with property tax administration started when I was appointed by California Governor Jerry Brown to the State agency overseeing assessors to advocate for taxpayers and protect them from being overtaxed. With Jordan, no taxpayer overpays!

Today, I serve as the Chief Deputy Assessor/ Recorder/ Clerk with years of experience successfully leading the office’s mission to deliver great customer service, with 450 employees and a $80 million balanced budget.

Since joining the office, I’ve enhanced our customer experience, receiving a 98.6% “outstanding” customer feedback rating. Delivered property tax assessments with
99.77 percent accuracy, according to a 2021 State audit, ensuring taxpayers are treated fairly and not overtaxed. We ensure corporations paid their fair share and delivered record-high revenue for education and critical services.

This office has become the model Assessor / Recorder/ County Clerk office in California. I have a passion for public service and want to continue leading innovation in the office to serve San Diegans with the best customer focused experience at life’s most precious moments.

I created programs that have delivered “unprecedented property tax savings” for San Diegans and are now the model statewide for making housing more affordable. My programs delivered San Diegans - $18.7 Million for Disabled Veterans; $32.8 Million for homeowners/ seniors; $210 Million helping renters, small businesses, homeless services, affordable housing, and non-profits.

Father Joe’s Villages, Deacon Jim Vargas said “Jordan’s tax saving guidance helped us provide more housing to help those who are homeless off the streets, key to solving San Diego County’s homeless crisis.”

When COVID shut down government offices, we were the only Clerk office in California to find an innovative way to safely remain open. Our award-winning “Marriage Hut,” a converted outdoor snack shop in the park, allowed us safely to remain open to issue marriage licenses and perform weddings. State of California leaders applauded our commitment to customer service and for saving thousands of weddings.

I'm well-qualified and meet California Constitution’s minimum legal qualification, of being a Certified Property Tax Appraiser, to serve as assessor. I've personally resolving over 1,000 customer care cases, and a track record of delivering homeowners, renters, seniors, disabled veterans, affordable housing providers and homeless solution organizations over $260 million in tax saving!
